What counts as a dental emergency?
A dental emergency is any situation requiring prompt care to relieve pain, prevent worsening, or save a tooth. If you experience any of the following symptoms, contact us without delay:
What to do in the meantime
Pain
Take a standard painkiller (paracetamol). Avoid aspirin and anti-inflammatories, which can worsen an abscess.
Broken tooth
Rinse your mouth with warm water. Keep the fragments in milk or saliva and bring them to the practice.
Knocked-out tooth
Handle it by the crown (never the root). Rinse it gently without scrubbing. If possible, place it back in the socket. Otherwise, keep it in milk or saliva. See us within one hour.
Swelling
Apply an ice pack to the cheek (20 minutes on, 3–4 times a day). Call us immediately if swelling is severe.
